Mobile Gem Mining FAQs
Station 1: Dress Up - Children who are participating have the option of dressing up to enhance the experience and/or for photo ops. Vests and hard hats are offered during the event but must be returned to us after.
Station 2: Discover - Participants will pour their bag of mining material into a sifting box and place the box into a water-powered sluice box (a long trough with flowing water). As the participants swirl and rock the sifting box side to side in the water, the sand is washed away leaving treasure behind. The newly uncovered treasure can be placed into a keepsake bag (provided by us) or carried over to station 3.
Station 3: Identification - Participants can carry their treasure over to the identification table where friendly staff can help identify each stone. The identification table will have a variety of tools such as blacklights and flashlights to help participants learn to identify their finds.
After identifying or during any step in the process, participants can place their newly found treasure into a keepsake bag. The keepsake bag, treasure and the ID card can be taken home to cherish for years to come.
